(PFPP)

Aperçu du programme

Le programme de formation des pompiers et ambulanciers paramédicaux est le programme phare du Collège de formation des secouristes du Manitoba. Unique au Manitoba, ce programme offre une formation en lutte contre les incendies, en sauvetage et en soins paramédicaux primaires, ainsi qu’une programmation sur l’éducation communautaire, sur la sécurité du public et sur le bien-être mental. Nos diplômés sont des professionnels prisés prêts à débuter leur carrière.

Grâce à l’étude en classe, à l’apprentissage pratique et aux stages cliniques, les étudiants participent aux opérations d’un service d’urgence et acquièrent des compétences en utilisant des installations, de l’équipement et des technologies de pointe.

Les diplômés de ce programme reçoivent le diplôme du programme de formation des pompiers et ambulanciers paramédicaux, détiennent une reconnaissance professionnelle* dans des cours supplémentaires spécifiques à l’industrie, et sont admissibles à l’examen de l’OCRP pour l’obtention d’une licence paramédicale.

** Les organismes d’agrément comprennent l’International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), le National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications Inc. (ProBoard) et le Programme d’agrément de l’éducation en santé (EQual) d’Agrément Canada.

 

Procédure d’admission et de candidature

Le processus de candidature au Collège de formation des secouristes du Manitoba se déroule en trois étapes. Les candidatures ne sont pas transférables d’une année à l’autre, et les personnes souhaitant renouveler leur candidature doivent commencer à l’étape 1.

Les candidats doivent être âgés de 18 ans et plus. Les renseignements relatifs au processus de candidature sont confidentiels et ne feront l’objet de discussions qu’avec les candidats. Tous les documents doivent être complets, clairs et lisibles.

The MESC typically opens up application periods for the upcoming school year in the preceding spring. The 2024-2025 application period has closed.

Submit an application package that includes:

  • Completed Public Fire Paramedic Application Form.
  • $100 non-refundable application fee. Copy of a valid Manitoba Class 5 F (Full) Driver’s License.
  • Official stamped high school transcript meeting Manitoba Grade 12 (Senior 4) Diploma (or equivalent) with the following Grade 12 credits:
    • English ELA
    • One (1) Science (Physics, Biology, or Chemistry)
  • Transcripts from other countries must also attach an assessment document from an accredited assessment agency showing equivalency to Manitoba Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent) that includes the required credits mentioned above. This document must be written in English. Please contact your local immigration agency for assistance.
  • Completed Vision Check Form to verify National Fire Protection Association Standard NFPA 1582 – 2022 vision requirement.
  • Official lab report proving immunity to Hepatitis B for previously completed vaccination series. If you have recently received a new Hep B vaccination series, proof showing first vaccination completion is required. Please consult a health care professional for assistance

Candidates selected from Step #1 will proceed to an interview with a Selection Committee from the Manitoba Emergency Services College. Interview will be conducted virtually.

The MESC is seeking candidates with the potential to do well in the Public Fire Paramedic Program and that demonstrate the attitude and aptitude to become a successful member of the emergency services profession.

Interviewers will be assessing candidates’ abilities and asking questions that relate to the following areas: time management, personal values/character, flexibility/adaptability, integrity, and interpersonal/professional communications. Decisions of the selection committee are final.

Candidates accepted into the Public Fire Paramedic Program from Step #2 must complete the following within a timeframe outlined in a letter of conditional acceptance. 

NOTE: As some of these items take several weeks to obtain (e.g., Class 4 Driver’s License) it is recommended to begin the process to obtain some of these items prior to Step #3.

Candidates will be required to submit the following: 

  • $1,000 Registration fee. This non-refundable fee will be deducted from the Program tuition fee.
  • $50.00 Student Insurance fee. This is a mandatory fee.
  • Proof of successful completion of 6 credit hours of Anatomy & Physiology (A&P), including the lab component (official stamped post-secondary transcript). 
  • Proof of successful completion of Canadian Red Cross Medical Terminology course.
  • Physical Fitness Assessment. To be completed at the University of Manitoba Campus in Winnipeg. Dates and fees for the fitness testing will be confirmed during the selection process. If unsuccessful on the first testing attempt, as a condition of continued enrollment, retesting must be arranged, and a successful attempt obtained within the first 90 days of the Program.
  • Copy of valid Pleasure Craft License or Safe Boaters Operators License.
  • Copy of valid Driver’s License equivalent to a Manitoba Class 4 (F) Full with Air Brake Endorsement. Candidates from outside of Manitoba must have an equivalent license from their home province. Candidates within Manitoba can work to obtain Class 4 and then wait for further instruction from the MESC regarding the Air Brake component.
  • Current Driver Abstract (original document).
  • Full medical clearance from your Family Doctor (form supplied by the MESC).
  • Copy of valid certification in Standard First Aid and CPR Health Care Provider (HCP)/BLS level. This must remain current for the duration of the program.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (original document, current – within six months of the start date of the program). 
  • Clear Child Abuse Registry Check (original document, current – within six months of the start date of the program).
  • Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check (original document, current – within six months of the start date of the program).
  • Up-to-date record of immunizations for the following (form supplied by the MESC): o Diphtheria, Polio and Tetanus, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella (Chicken Pox), Mantoux test (Tuberculosis), Influenza, COVID-19 (minimum 2 immunizations required, 3 recommended).
